Prayerful, Practical and Personal Grief Support

Their Stories

"He gave  some as Apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the Body of Christ." Saint Paul

John and Sandy O'Shaughnessy know about grief, from their own personal experiences with it. They have been there. They don't know what every grieving person is going through, but they do know some of the challenges, obstacles, emotions and issues they face.

In 1998, John's first wife passed away after a long battle with lung cancer leaving him to raise their two young sons alone. Nine years later, his memoir, The Greatest Gift was published and tells his riveting true story about amazing love, to the dead end of grief and a return to hope. This book eventually led John out of the corporate world, where he worked in various sales and management postitions, and into his life's mission, caring for grieving people. Before starting GMM John spent seven years at a non-profit grief support center in both volunteer and staff positions where he was a support group facilitator, workshop speaker and Director of Fund Development. John also served a term on the board of directors from 2008-2011. John is a Certified Grief Counselor, Servant-Leader/Co-Founder of GMM and published author of three books, all available in the e-book store.

Sandy had two moments of impact. In 1998 her husband was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer. Five months later her mother was severely paralyzed in a car accident. Her mother died in 1999 and then a year later in 2000 she lost her husband leaving her an only parent to two young children. Just recently, Sandy lost her Dad and her father-in-law. She holds a masters in Pastoral Ministry with an emphasis in bereavement and feels called to minister to those who mourn. In addition to being Co-Founder and Servant-Leader of GMM, she works at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church as a Director of Religious Education. Together, John and Sandy have four children, Eric, Collin, Morgan and Ryan, as well as daughter-in-law Kim and their newest edition, granddaughter Claire Ann.
Their home parish is Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic church in Plymouth Michigan.
